What will the PS5 cost?
Best answer: It's unknown how much the PS5 will cost. Analysts have estimated that the PS5 will cost around $500, but the reveal of the PS5 Digital Edition may have thrown those predictions off. Earlier reports indicated that Sony was struggling to keep the cost down and might cost around $450 for Sony to produce.

What will the PS5 cost?
We don't know yet. Despite its imminent release over the horizon, Sony has not revealed what the PS5 will cost. That doesn't mean we don't have educated estimates, though. Some analysts have speculated that the PS5 will cost $500, which makes sense given that it reportedly costs $450 per unit for Sony to produce as it struggles to keep the price down.
Will the PS5 Digital Edition be cheaper?
The PS5 Digital Edition will likely be cheaper, but its unclear by how much. This is the first time that Sony is releasing two different PlayStation SKUs simultaneously at launch. According to Eurogamer, the estimated cost of removing the disc drive from the PS5 would only be $20. Should Sony offer a higher discount than that, it would effectively be losing money on it. Still, people believe that the discless PS5 will be priced at around $50 less than the standard PS5 (which is about how much less the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition cost than the regular Xbox One X). Sony likely expects to make up some losses with a larger cut of digital game sales and services.
How will the PS5 price compare to Xbox Series X?
Again, without knowing what Microsoft plans to price the Xbox Series X at either, we don't know how their prices will compare. Even though the Xbox Series X has a more powerful CPU and GPU on paper, some speculate that the PS5 will cost more because of its ultra-fast SSD.
How much did the PS4 cost?
When Sony released the PS4 in 2013, it launched at $400. When the company eventually released the PS4 Pro years later, that system also launched at $400 while the base PS4 price dropped to $300. All signs point to the PS5 being more expensive than its predecessors.
When will we learn the PS5's price?
Sony's next big PS5 State of Play is reportedly set to take place in August, which is when some are expecting for the price to finally be revealed. The company previously told Geoff Keighley that it will give players a heads up before preorders go live, and won't just drop them out of the blue.

With the PS5 set to be backward compatible, you can feel comfortable buying PS4 games right now and knowing you'll be able to play them on Sony's next-gen machine. Though the company is still working to ensure all games work properly through backward compatibility, Sony plans to have almost all 4,000 PS4 games playable on PS5.

The PS5 isn't available for preorder just yet, but a few retailers are letting fans sign up for notifications so they don't miss out. While it's unknown at this time what the PS5 will cost, you should expect to pay more than what the PS4 launched at. Thankfully, the Digital Edition will probably cost less than its counterpart.
