What you need to know
- OnePlus' upcoming mid-range phone, OnePlus Nord, will be unveiled in an AR launch on July 21.
- Registrations for the phone are now live on Amazon India.
- The Nord is limited to Europe and India, and will not be available in North America.
The OnePlus Nord showed up in numerous leaks and teasers over the last two weeks, and we finally know when the device will be unveiled. OnePlus has shared via Instagram that the upcoming mid-range phone will be making its debut in July 21. The phone was slated to be announced on July 10, but the date was pushed back.
Interestingly, OnePlus says the launch will be held in AR, and that customers will be able to stream the event using the Nord Launch app. From Paul Yu, head of OnePlus Nord:
OnePlus Nord represents a new beginning for OnePlus, giving us an opportunity to share our technology with more people around the world. For this launch, we want everyone to sit back, relax, and experience our new phone for the first time right in the comfort of their living room.
We feel that introducing Nord in a more personal and intimate way perfectly reflects our ambition to make the OnePlus experience more accessible to users.
The timing coincides well with the documentary series that OnePlus is rolling out alongside the device. The launch announcement came during the second part in the New Beginnings docuseries, with two more episodes scheduled for the next two weeks. We know a lot about the OnePlus Nord: the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 765G chipset and feature a "flagship-tier" camera, and it will have dual 32MP + 8MP cameras at the front.
OnePlus showed off the packaging for the phone, and it's clear that the company is going after a more mainstream audience with its upcoming phone. The OnePlus Nord will be limited to Europe and India, and the phone won't be available in North America other than in a "highly limited" beta.
OnePlus has also confirmed that the Nord will be available for under $500, with recent leaks suggesting the phone will start off at ₹24,990 ($330) in India. The phone will go up for pre-order in India from July 15 for ₹499, with customers pre-ordering the device getting a "surprise gift box containing limited-edition merchandise" from OnePlus. Those picking up the phone before August 31 will get a OnePlus Bullets Wireless V1 and a case for free.
